All Day | Empty Place at the Table - Domestic Violence Awareness (Multi-Day Event) October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Nearly three out of four Americans personally know someone who is or has been a victim of domestic violence. Now is the time to take a stand. Support survivors and speak out against domestic violence all month long. Empty Place at the Table is a traveling tribute of remembrance that honors those who have lost their lives to domestic violence during the past year in Massachusetts. The names of every victim are inscribed onto each place setting, a powerful display of the family memories that will be missed. This display will be available in the Commons Hallway overlooking Green Street near the entrance to the Science Center. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are encouraged to stop by the table to read the stories of those lost this past year in Massachusetts to domestic violence. Remember their stories and educate yourself on ways to help prevent domestic violence. Campus Police Officers will be available at various times throughout the week in the area of the display with information, to answer questions, and to provide assistance if needed. Remember, your Campus Police Officer are trained officers of the law and are here to help you if you find yourself in an abusive or violent situation.

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM | Qi Gong - Part of Marty's Mountain Path - Wellness/Mindfulness Join for a short weekly session to help you relax and refocus. Sessions will be led by Melissa Manzi, LICSW, the college counselor and are open to all students. No special equipment is needed, simply a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted for 15 or 20 minutes. What is Qigong? Qigong can be described as a mind-body-spirit practice that improves one's mental and physical health by integrating posture, movement, breathing technique, self-massage, sound, and focused intent. What are the Benefits of Qigong? Qigong opens the flow of energy in meridians used in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. It enhances our ability to feel the Life Force underlying the physical world and to deepen our communication with it. Physically, slow gentle qigong movements warm tendons, ligaments, and muscles; tonify vital organs and connective tissue; and promote circulation of body fluids (blood, synovial, lymph). Thousands of studies have shown qigong effective in helping to heal life challenges ranging from high blood pressure and chronic illness to emotional frustration, mental stress, and spiritual crisis.
